American Resident!

Woot!  Roadwolf is now an official American resident. The stress of being a non-American resident (fear of deportation, etc… – even tho I was here legally) is now over with.  I feel much more comfortable here.

In other news.  Have been looking at houses in the area.  We are looking in the 60 to 80k range, which might seem low, but in Buffalo that is a decent range.  Can find some good starter houses in that price range.  We are looking at a couple which we really like and are trying to save up the downpayment to buy one.

Which brings me to donations…  If any of my regular readers wanted to donate to the cause, my paypal is roadwolf611@gmail.com  Donations of more then 25 bucks will get their choice of a 8×10 color photograph from my collection, and I will mail it to them.  Each 25 dollar mark will add another photograph to your order if you so choose.

I will be visiting Canada for my Grandmothers birthday in April, and hope to see all my Canadian friends that weekend.  This coming weekend I am likely meeting up with my girlfriend and going camping for a bit down here in WNY.

My wife and I are very happy to be finally getting this immigration stuff done, and looking forward to buying our own house soon.

Global Warming

Almost my whole adult life I have heard about Global Warming this and Carbon Footprint that.  I understand that the world will warm up, the ice caps will melt and alot of our coastal areas will be under water.  Scary isnt it?

Now we humans are fairly smart people.  We have adapted to living in the hottest and coldest places on earth.  While sure, a lot of cities and property will be lost, and changes will have to be made, I do not think that global warming is something to really fear.  Frankly the human variable of pollution is just a small variable in a large chaotic environment known as Earth.  There are many other factors present which altar the direction of the Earths weather.

The fact is that we can’t stop what is happening, and nipping at the edges by trying to skim and reduce our emissions is not really worth the huge investment it takes.  Our energy would be better spent on preparing for a warmer climate and ensuring that infrastructure is in place to ensure that areas which will dry out and need water, get that water, and areas which will get too much water will be able to control or adapt to it.

Adaptability is what separates us from most other creatures.  We can not fear change, because change will happen.  We should just try to prepare and adapt to change.

Blog Post 145 – Life in General

I am not really too sure what to write here.  The last week or so has been kind of different for me.  For starters I have been partaking in a few job interviews, and going from basically sitting around all day doing nothing to having to plan meetings and such on a regular basis can seem overwhelming at first.  And maybe this is just it, I am overwhelmed a little?

I have had a number of various topics come to my mind.  Everything from global warming to addictions to sexual fetishes.  And I was planning to write about them, but I just can’t keep my mind in gear long enough to stay on one train of thought.

There is more on my mind then just job hunting as well.  I have a meeting coming up soon to become a US Citizen, and although I know that I have nothing to worry about, it still stresses me out a lot.  Not only that, but my wife and I are looking at buying a house.  Now of course my eventual dream house would likely be in Canada, in the North country.  A nice A Frame log cabin overlooking a quiet lake.  But for now, I would like to try and get a small but decent house in the country near Buffalo.

The price range we are looking in is very doable even for us, with one income right now.  The downpayment would likely have to be borrowed from family, however with the first time homeowners buying incentive program that is going on right now, we would get about 8 thousand dollars back on our tax return which would more then pay off any downpayment we would have to borrow.

Our downpayment would likely be about $2,800 or so for a 80k house, on an FHA mortgage.  Which is not bad.  Then we use seller concessions to try to pay the rest of the fees and the taxes.  While owning our own home ‘could’ be more costly in the short term, in the long term we would be saving a lot more money, and infact it is an investment.  When and if we decide to sell and move back to Canada, we will have a nice chunk of money which we can use to place a downpayment on a house in Canada with.  Instead of living paycheque to paycheque on rent, why not invest into something, for about the same cost per month?

Also I have noticed that I have become very quiet with a lot of my friends.  I feel bad for this as I do try to be there for them and be their guardian angel as it were.  But I just have so much on my mind that I do not really know what to say half the time.  I know there are a few friends who made contact with me because they heard i was very caring and supportive, and I have not been living up to those standards lately.  That does bother me.

I suppose I just have to take some me time, and look inwards.  As my friend Levi said.  I spend a lot of time and energy being there for other people, and when it comes down to being there for myself, I sometimes ignore myself.  I suppose that is just who I am, but I do know that it is important to pay attention to my own thoughts.

I have also been working on a Team Fortress 2 server.  Server IP: 216.6.224.224:27015 if you play team fortress…   My clan, the Fastlane Crew has set it up, and I have been helping them tweak the settings to get it operating properly.  We have so much fun playing there.  Usually we have All Talk enabled so both teams can talk to each other over voice chat.  And the playful taunting and name calling can get very funny sometimes.  Lets just say there is a lot of sexual induendo…  ‘How does that shot gun feel up your ass?’  – ‘Mmm  that feels good, but next time grease it up a little’ Fun times!

I honestly think that because the FLC is so clique in a way, that we do scare off some new players who come to us.  But on the other hand, if people have a sense of humor and are fairly laid back, they usually will want to join us.  I got my wife playing TF2 now with us on a regular basis, and she enjoys the clan.  I kinda wish I could get some of my other friends to come play too however.

I guess thats about it for now.  I am getting my car fixed on Monday.  Large repair.  The shop is just down the street from me, and is run by a friend of mine who I met off of craigslist.  I am glad it is a friend who is doing the repair then someone I don’t really know.

Until next time, have a good one! :)

The Aud: Album 1

This is Album 1 of 5 of my Aud photos.

It is a start anyhow…  Warning, this is a long post.  Please be sure to scroll down and view the rest of my recent posts too :)

I also included some videos.

This is another decent overview photo of the arena inside.

In the Aud Club…

An old air handling fan

This chair is still in great condition.  Perhaps I should of rescued it from the Aud?  It is likely scrap now.

These stairs lead up to the cat walks above the Aud Club

Looking down into the storage room near the Aud Club.

Mmmmm Cat Walk Goodness!

Broadcast networks terminations

We found some new cups.

Original outside wall of the building.

I so want that sign!

Cool pipes and condensers.

Freezer

This was some kind of chute for perhaps coal?  maybe for the old heating system.

Fire Sprinkler Pumps.

One of the sewer access points I believe.

Floor waxing brushes…

Someone left their case for their portable radio here.

Strange Locker Room.

Stereo system in the rear of a fast food vendor.

Been a while since I have seen one of these signs.

Fine desk!

One of the locker rooms in the basement was used for paint storage.

Classy…

Someone had fun lining these up.

Wonder if that will fit in my 60 watt lamp socket…  ;)

This odd area had a wall knocked down into a room with 2 doors leading into it from the same area I was standing in when I took the photo.  Why bother knocking down the wall?

Old Spotlight

This was kinda neat…  Wonder if anyone remembers this?

They obviously were not protecting it while I was in there…  Walked in through an opened door.  How secure is that???

Radio Station license and some other things in the security office.

Now with only 1200 calories!

I had a better shot of whatever this machine was… Without my friend in the way.   But I think this shot looks cooler.

Above the International Beer Garden

Looking down into the depths.  This was between the Original facade and the new renovations.

Mmmm

Did someone say they wanted some seats from the Aud?

This used to be a broom…

And I thought those kegs were real!

Duck Rescue

Was out driving today and saw a duck who was injured on Niagara Street near Tonawanda.  It was right in the middle of the road and cars were swerving around it.  I stopped and was able to capture it without too much trouble or stress (to the Duck).  I then drove it to the SPCA.

I am not too sure what type of duck it was, but I think it was a Scaup.  It was a young one.  It seemed to be unable to fly, and was limping a little.  I hope to contact the SPCA and get an update on its condition if possible in a few days.

It is always nice to be able to help in some form.  I don’t know why people don’t do it more often.

Street lights and other roadside features…

Buffalo seems to have this huge plague of streetlights and road signs and guard rails which need serious repair.  Not to mention the potholes.  But we won’t go there.

Since I have moved to Buffalo some almost 3 years ago now, I have seen Street Lamps knocked down and left on the side of the road for years.

Where I came from in Toronto, whenever there was an accident in the city or surrounding areas and a pole was knocked down, the Hydro company would come out and replace the pole, usually right after the accident cleared the scene.

It seems that in Buffalo this is not the case.  Street Lamps are left to rust away where they were left after the car was removed from the accident.  Live AC power wires are taped up with electrical tape and left dangling out of the ground with a pylon on top of them for protection.  Not only is this unsafe, but it also makes the city look crappier then it already looks.  This is sending a message that not even the city cares about taking care of its property, so why should property owners?

I am sure everyone in Buffalo has noticed this.  One drive up the Scajaquada Expressway will present you with a number of examples of this situation.  This street lamp featured below has been there for as long as I can remember, and it even has rust on it where the paint has been chipped away.

I know it costs money to repair them, but at least remove the old ones?  Why leave them laying around?  Not only is it an asthetics thing, but it is also a traffic safety thing.  What if you lost control of your car and hit one of these…  It is very possible that it could impale you.  Roadside features are designed to break and reduce damage and increase safety.  But if they are left in a manner such as this, they actually introduce a great threat.

Remember that post I did back in December where I had helpped someone who got into an accident infront of my house?  Well gee wizz, the street lamp is still not repaired.  Surprised?  I am not.

Get your act together Buffalo…  Seriously.
